The Week That Was with Writing WA
Our new weekly roundup, in pictures, of Writing WA' various events and other activities
Heroes with Paws packs a gentle punch
Jessica Ten Vaanholt launched her latest children’s picture book Heroes with Paws at the State Library of WA Theatre on Saturday August 31. It was a beautiful event, with some canine friends in attendance and part-profits from book sales going to charity.
The Writer, The Hairdresser and The Nurse
Zara Ellen aka Joanne Morrell launched her debut novel The Writer, The Hairdresser and The Nurse in the same venue on Thursday 5 September. Or should I say Sasha Wasley launched Zara’s book for her! As always, a formidable and entertaining interlocutor. Will Yeoman took the opportunity to sit down with Jo just before the event to record a Podstreet episode - watch out for it here on Writing WA’s Substack later this week.
Rainy day just perfect for a short story workshop
Earlier that same Thursday, author and Writing WA stalwart Laurie Steed presented a workshop on short story writing at the Subiaco Library. Despite the terrible weather, a dedicated crew of writers turned up for Laurie’s practical advice and words of wisdom.
Je ne regrette rien
Finally, on Saturday 7 September, and again at the State Library of WA Theatre, Keith (Cobber) Lethbridge, Bill Gordon and the crew from Dragonfly Publishing launched Keith’s compendious and colourful (in more ways than one!) book No Regrets - Cobber’s Favourite Bush Yarns & Poems. We enjoyed not only Cobber’s marvellous storytelling, but his captivating harmonica playing.
What a week!
