Sofija Stevanovic, an emerging West Australian writer and literary sector artsworker, visits Podstreet to chat with Writing WA’s Operations Manager Shannon Britza about the unique highs and lows of navigating a different neurotype.

Sofija is the Coordinator of the Katharine Susannah Prichard (KSP) Writers’ Centre and a neurodivergent, queer writer living on the unceded lands of Whadjuk Noongar people. She holds a Bachelor of Marketing and PR and is currently working on a Master of Arts in Creative Writing through Curtin University. When not working or writing about the wild and wonderful curiosities of neurodiverse existence she spends time reading, binging anime and drinking excessive amounts of coffee with her biggest supporters, cockatiels Phineas and Birb, on her shoulders. Find out more about the KSP Writers Centre via their website.

Shannon Britza is a Life Member and former CEO of the KSP Writers’ Centre, member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, certified bookkeeper, and current Operations Manager at Writing WA. She has a Bachelor of Writing which was achieved as a mature-age student while raising a blended neurodivergent family of six, including a thunderstorm-averse Labrador-Kelpie. In a former life, Shannon was a second-hand bookseller and entrepreneur, launching her own bedroom library at the age of nine. As a short fiction author, Shannon has won the ECU Talus Prize and been published in many Australian anthologies and journals. Connect with Shannon on LinkedIn and Instagram @shannon_brie_writes

Sofija and Shannon talk candidly about ADHD – attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – which is a developmental condition that affects approximately 1 in every 20 Australians. *The diagnosis of ADHD has risen over the years due to increased awareness about its symptoms, particularly with respect to the female presentation, together with an actual increase in the condition.
